Art for peace


I don´t usually connect my surrealistic timeless paintings to certain time or moment in ordinary life.

As most of the time, I paint joy, freedom, and solidarity. I paint people working together. I paint equality. I paint utopist visions of peace. I paint peace of mind.

I welcome You to the Wind Factory where people are working equally for sustainable future. People are also taking care of nature along taking care of each other.

I started to paint this imaginary Wind Factory in spring 2022. My goal was to paint the Wind Factory where people are doing things together since covid time separated people widely. It looked like that finally our lives are getting back to normal. I wanted to reflect the opening of society also on this painting.

Almost immediately in early state of this process it happened that Russian attack to Ukraine started. Since that, I was in the middle of very personal painting process and hearing and seeing the unexpected acts of war on European soil. The fact that our country and Russia have 1343 km common boarder, and many confluences in history, makes situation even more multidimensional. This painting process was totally something else I planned. However, the actions in Ukraine and the fact how fast this war united the Europe and other nations, gave me some extra strength to create and work. So, I think it is ok to say that eventually this painting is my requiem, this is my Via Dolorosa, this is where I hide and where I partly reborn when awful things started to happen in spring 2022. For me this painting represents peace, freedom, and equality.

We can turn the nightmares to daydreams

I think that modern people recognize too easily the act of war, the signs of tyranny and the endless appetite of the greed ruler.

People recognize the faces of forgotten, hated and discriminated people. The facades of chaos. Destroyed cities and discarded villages are too familiar for people. The ruthless images of suffering society and lost individuals are just an inevitable part of our empty scrolling routine.

Modern people don´t see the empathy, tolerance, or forgiveness. They don´t recognize the acts of respect, love, acceptance, or empathy. The peace around us is too obvious for people to stop and give a moment to uphold humanity and actions based on pure values.

People who have no experience of lasting peace in their life, don´t understand the talk of peace and the talk of working for peace.

What is our role in work for peace? Our responsibility is to create the conditions for uprise of GOOD. We have knowledge. We have will and in modern society we have tools to create chances for the sprout. We can seed, scatter, and feed the small actions to spring the unlimited future expectations for those who can´t see the hope by they own eyes. We can educate. We should support. Especially we must show that we care.

We know what we are capable, but we don´t yet know that we are even more capable. The sustainable development and increase of solidarity help us to work. Helps us to work based on real values.

By supporting the education and motivation of minorities and outsiders we can create base and spread the seed of the construction of the tomorrow´s humankind.  Tomorrow humankind is facing the same challenges and questions than we, but it’s our task to make them more prepared and capable to face these challenges. By giving them a chance today, we give a chance for humankind tomorrow.

By taking care of our own minorities, we show the important example for those who don´t take care of theirs. They need example and tools not just finger pointing.

We can constructively and lovingly make them recognize the act of peace, the signs of forgiveness, the hospitality of the modern leaders and people. We can educate them to recognize the faces of humans with right values, realistic future expectations, and equal opportunities.

Instead of empty scrolling, we can use our capacity to build the hopes and dreams, picture by picture, act by act, day by day. We can turn the nightmares to daydreams, we can turn focus on good and justice instead of feeding the terror.

If you are too small, too weak, or just inhibited to create peace, you can still nurture the seeds of peace by creating the conditions for hopes, dreams, and motivation. Show the example of life based on education, right values, equality and understanding. Small things matters when it´s about humanity and the future of humankind.

What is art? Where is it heading? Is art still in the hands of artists and art dealers or it has become a tool for the crypto speculators? The world is changing, everything becomes more virtual including art and in the process a lot of speculators are trying to twist things in their own interest like in the case of NFT. The crypto speculators are trying to make this the new “COOL” but what is so cool about it? Art is food for our souls, If they want this to be the new truth then they should start doing everything virtually, for example start eating virtual food or maybe get drunk with virtual alcohol, if they do this then by all means we will start to believe in their vision. As for us- galleries, artists, collectors… should we let hundreds of years of artistic refinement in the hands of the crypto speculators that don’t even know the difference between renaissance and contemporary? What about the painters, photographers, print makers, sculptors, performers and all the other artists who create real work, work that we can touch, smell, feel… should we give up on them for the sake of a speculative game? No thanks!!! NFT should be embraced as a new medium/tool like we always did along the way with a lot of other things but it shouldn’t be allowed to take over! If it does take over then an entire generation of artists and their works will vanish in thin air making way for the crypto speculators and their pyramid. Should we allow this to happen on our watch? The aim of this exhibition is to promote real art made by real artists!

The psychology of art, from its beginnings, has investigated the correlation between identity and art. In order to carry out a satisfactory analysis, it is appropriate to consider what the birth of individuality actually is. Some historians have noted how the formation of the modern world accompanied the affirmation of individualism. The crisis of the Middle Ages and the formation of new social classes leads to the possibility of a detachment of people from conformity, and the tangible proof of this detachment is represented by the self- portrait. Initially, the artists inserted their own figure among the crowds of people who painted, then, little by little, we arrived at the first self-portrait, dating back to that of the painter Jean Fouquet (Tours, 1420-1471 / 81?). Thus begins a slow but unstoppable process of the formation of modernity, in which the collective consciousness begins to fragment, divide, and decompose; and from this moment the artist’s individuality and the awareness he has of himself begins to emerge. According to Stefano Ferrari, professor of psychology of art at the University of Bologna, the real problem lies in the fact that our identity often does not coincide with our image, but it is necessary that this identity be represented and presented to the world through the image. Art itself is individuality and self-affirmation, although it is born within styles and currents, the artistic act is individual in itself, it is a question of self-realization. There were two artists who marked the history of the twentieth century, on the one hand the surrealist Salvador Dalì and on the other the emblem of PopArt Andy Warhol, the first immediately sensed the great potential and the enormous importance that they were beginning to have the mass media and that to achieve success it was essential to use and exploit them. With Dalì the representation of the artist as a star was born, his dandy attitude and his eccentric behavior began to attract extreme attention. With Dalì, therefore, there is a union between artist and public figure, the birth of the artistic icon, an idol and, therefore, a high level of attention is paid to one’s appearance and representation towards the outside. Warhol, on the other hand, was an individual constantly tormented and dissatisfied with his appearance, he perceived a constant sense of inadequacy and yearned for social acceptance. With the spread of the mass media, so the boundary between artist and individual is blurred, the two figures merge and the artist’s own personality becomes a reason for admiration and idealization. Self-portrait, self-representation, the perception of oneself and one’s identity are absolutely topical and pre-eminent themes in the society of the 21st century, Social Media and the daily stage have allowed a widening of the boundaries between private life and life publishes, between the background and the stage, to return to Erving Goffman’s sociological theory. The roles of individuals merge, just like Dali and Warhol, one is no longer one thing or the other, depending on the circumstances, but one is everything, one is the essence of oneself and one wants to demonstrate it in any way and through any tool. In this new world, dominated by communications, a sense of pride relative to what one is is born, there are no longer hiding places or places in which to hide one’s identity and one’s essence, but on the contrary, real individual revolutions are triggered in which you become aware of your existence and celebrate it, returning to be at the center and protagonists of your life. The collective consciousness and its identity are completely overshadowed, and with it the social characteristics that have, up to that moment, defined the roles of individuals. This new reality brings with it a sense of individual freedom, in which people are fully aware of who they are and their potential, it is the individual who reigns supreme. Sociologists speak of Second Modernity, a reality in which the transformations begun in the first modernity are brought to completion: a modernity in which the liberating thrust was held back by the presence of other entities, such as social class, family of origin, work . It is in the second modernity that this liberating drive finds its maximum expression, there is an intensification of the individualization process. In fact, the first modernity had subjected them to the limits imposed by tradition and society, the second modernity freed them from all the institutionalized models that shaped their existence. This new modernity carries with it the principle that people should make themselves the center of their projects and build themselves as their own masterpiece. On this concept, that of Self-culture, a new cultural sensitivity, characterized by the important value attributed to the autonomy and self-management of every lifestyle, M.A.D.S. Art Gallery, wants to invite artists to express their essence, unhinged from what the market wants and requires, from what the generalized artistic taste craves. M.A.D.S. Art Gallery therefore asks artists to express their sense of self, to self-determine themselves as creators, rising above all boundaries, be it stylistic or technical, following a single word “dare”.
